Free Fishing in State Parks

Let’s go fishing!

Did you know you can fish without fishing license or stamps in Texas state parks?

Just bring your fishing gear and family or friends to a state park, pay the park entry fee, and you’re ready to wet some hooks.

If you don’t have any fishing gear, don’t worry. Many state parks loan fishing equipment for use in the park! Check the list of parks with loaner equipment, or call the parks directly.

Free fishing applies to fishing in rivers and creeks, from bank or pier. You can also wade fish in the surf along the shore of our coastal state parks. You may be able to fish for free from a boat on lakes or ponds that are fully enclosed in a state park.

Bag (number of each type of fish) and length limits and other regulations still apply. Ask at the park about these restrictions.

Enjoy free fishing at more than 70 state parks across the state.

Look for fishing events at state parks on our Events calendar under Fishing and Fly fishing.
